RADIUS & sessions

RADIUS, accounting and live sessions, already wired up

Wave answers your routers’ RADIUS questions: who may log in, at what speed, and for how long. Accounting shows who is online right now and how much data they have used.

Quick answer

What is RADIUS in ISP billing?

RADIUS is the protocol routers use to ask a central server whether a user may connect and with which limits. In ISP billing, the RADIUS server checks the customer’s plan and expiry, returns their speed limits, and records accounting data such as session time and data used. Wave runs FreeRADIUS connected to its billing data.

What you get

RADIUS & sessions, done properly.

  • FreeRADIUS inside

Authentication and accounting for PPPoE, hotspot and DHCP/IPoE customers.

  • Plans become limits

Speeds, burst settings and session times come straight from the customer’s package.

  • Who is online now

Live sessions with IP address, router and data downloaded and uploaded.

  • Fair usage monitor

Track customers on capped packages and how close they are to their limit.

  • Protected endpoint

RADIUS requests to Wave are authenticated with a shared API key.

  • Billing never waits

Logins are checked against the latest plan, so a payment works the moment it clears.

  4. 04

    You see everything

Live sessions, usage and fair usage status in the dashboard.

Questions

RADIUS & sessions: your questions answered.

Do I need to run my own RADIUS server?

Wave ships with FreeRADIUS configured to ask Wave about every login, so there is no separate user database to keep in sync.

Can I see who is online?

Yes. The Active Sessions page lists everyone online with their router, IP address and data downloaded and uploaded.

Does Wave support fair usage policies?

Yes. A package can have a data cap and a reduced speed after it. The FUP monitor shows customers on capped packages and their usage.
